Star Fleet have introduced Phaser Cannons, or also known as Pulse Cannons, into Defiant-class starships. These cannons are similar to disruptor cannons used by both Romulan and Klingon Empires. The Phaser Cannon works by taking a large amount of phased energy usually from the Warp Engine or Impulse Engine's and bundles it in a solid shell. This Phased energy does loose heat and phased energy when travelling through space. The emitter fires rapid pulses of phaser energy, instead of a steady beam of energy like a Type-X array would. The phaser emitter automatically rotates phaser frequency and can eventually determine the frequency of an enemy's shield.
The Type-X Phaser array is normally standard on Star Fleets larger ships. Manoeuvrability is a big problem for larger ships so these arrays are best suited for larger ships. These arrays are not fixed and can rotate the phaser beams in different directions. They Galaxy-class starships used a Type-9 phaser array that could produce a 5.1MW burst of energy.
Photon Torpedoes have served Star Fleet for over a century, from the Enterprise-A to the Enterprise-D. Photon Torpedoes were a big step in Advanced Weapons Technology. The are an extremely dangerous device. The combination of 50% Matter (Slush Hydrogen) and 50% Antimatter (Antihydrogen) is deadly. Photon Torpedoes could not be loaded with these compounds until they were ready to be fired seconds before launching. When launched the two substances react with each other to produce a deadly explosion. Photon Torpedoes were replaced by Star Fleet with Quantum Torpedoes.
Photon Torpedoes use a mixed matter/anti-matter reaction as their warhead unlike Quantum Torpedoes which use a different type warhead. These torpedoes use artificial Quantum Filaments. A Quantum Filament is a natural form of energy in space. It has no mass and if triggered it can release an extreme amount of energy. Quantum Torpedoes carry up to 100 filaments. Unlike photons torpedoes, quantum torpedoes are made fully assembled with the artificial quantum filaments inside. This allows the torpedo to be fired instantly gaining valuable seconds in combat situations. After launching the filament is triggered and becomes active.
Chronoton torpedoes are capable of penetrating the shields of a starship. This is achieved due to the torpedo being in a constant state of temporal flux and thus allowing it to penetrate a ships shields. However the torpedo does not have as much destructive power as a quantum torpedo.The drawback to this torpedo design is that it is so heavy it needs a completely different torpedo launcher. They are slower and larger so they can be easily tracked by sensors and then destroyed. They require a custom launching tube since they are larger and heavier. They are based on the Quantum Filament design. Each casing can carry up to 45 filaments.
Tri-Cobalt torpedoes use three different types of explosives, Quantum filaments, Tri-Cobalt and Antimatter. Upon impact these devices are mixed in that order and produce a lethal explosion. The explosion is enough to completely disable a starship. Quad-Cobalt torpedoes are based on a similar principle. Upon impact, the microfusion initiators inside the casing fuse the cobalt with pure antihydrogen, creating a very unstable compound, which then mixes with plasma from the torpedo's engines, causing rapid total annihilation of the torpedo and a massive explosion as powerful as 250 photon torpedoes.
The term "transwarp" is a collective term for any speed faster than conventional warp drive currently allows. It would allow speeds up to and including infinity. Transwarp conduits, as the Borg use, are conduits through subspace that allow travel at transwarp speeds. Transwarp does not refer to any set speed. Transwarp means "faster than warp." The designers of the Excelsior project most likely were hoping to invent the infinite-speed drive. However, they soon discovered that the attainment of infinite speed was impossible. Transwarp drive was abandoned. The Borg use transwarp conduits for long-range travel. These tunnels through subspace are much like artificial wormholes, but they can only be accessed if you transmit a certain signal. There ends are fixed and they apparently can't be created at will by any Borg ship at any time or place. In other words, they're only useful if you know where they are and what signal to send.
Multi-layered are shields composed of several static shield layers nested closely together. These shields have been incorporated into Defiant-class starships. Each layer has a specific function. The outer layer is unusual and little information has been released on it. The middle-layer rotates shield frequency and nutation absorbing enemy fire and then spreads it out along the shield and finally redirecting into space. The shield can then adapt to the frequency of that weapon and it then renders the enemy weapon useless. The function of the inner-layer is also unknown. The shield lies within 5 meters of the actual hull. There is about 3 meters between each shield. Power is taken form the warp engine.
This device allows a starship to travel through solid matter and energy as well as functioning like a cloaking device. A molecular phase inverter is used to move a ship out of phase with our plane of existence making it virtually invulnerable. No weapon would be able to damage it. However as all cloaking devices give off chroniton particles which are detectable by a finely tuned sensor make the ship traceable. Using an anyon emitter the effect would be counteracted and the ship would return to our plane. However as already stated only a finely tuned sensor can pick the by-products up still making this weapon a dangerous device. Phasers, Torpedoes and even Shields would be useless. They would simply pass through it.
PICD's or Personal Interphase-claoking devices use interphasic technology. The device allows an individual to be shifted into a parallel plane of existence. This allows them to pass through solid matter and energy in our plane, but not totally. The individual is only slightly out of phase so he is able to walk through a starship without slipping through the floor into space. They can't pass through matter from the plane they are in phase with. When phased, chroniton particles are given off and are detectable by sensors. The device has minimized this factor so not even a starships inner sensors could pick up on the particles. But if detected, which is possible with a very finely tuned sensor they can be subjected to anyons which counteract the cloak.
A cloaking device is an energy screen generator used to render an object invisible to the eye and to most sensor systems. Cloaking a ship requires precisely balancing the radiative emissions from the warp drive nacelles, dissipating all electromagnetic radiation, gravitational fields and other energy emissions emanating from the ship, and distorting space in such a way that electromagnetic radiation and energy emissions are directed around the ship through subspace at velocities faster than light. Off-axis warp field controllers balance the radiative emissions from the warp drive nacelles. This is necessary because the power source must be in phase with the cloaking device. These devices are used on warp-capable ships without cloaking devices, as well as warp-capable ships with cloaking devices, because they increase the engine operating efficiency. If any one of these controllers are misaligned or in some way damaged it would produce a polarised, magnetic distortion, detectable by other ship's sensors. When a cloaked ship is travelling faster than light in warp, the fact that the ship is moving so quickly makes it difficult to pin-point the location of a ship even if one of the controllers are in some way damaged or misaligned. If a ship had the ability to generate enough energy to maintain the cloaking device as well as defensive shields, the cloak could neither mask all of the energy required to accomplish this, nor the interference created by defensive shields. In addition, the spatial distortions created by defensive shields would mean that the shield itself would have to exist within the cloaking field, and the larger the cloaking field is, the more energy is required to generate it. These reasons completely eliminate the possibility of using defensive shields. When a starship's cloaking device is active, several ship's systems operate under special protocols to minimise the interference of the cloaking device. It is impossible to fire phasers from inside a cloak, however, it is possible for a phaser to penetrate the cloak from the outside if it is tuned to the frequency of a window opened in the cloak for sensory input. It is possible to open an interference window in a finely tuned cloak, so that a photon torpedo will pass through, as opposed to being bent off course or even crushed by the gravitational distortion. This interference window is generated by, at the moment of firing, a cloaking generator coil to operate on a different frequency than the other cloaking generator coils. This is accomplished by temporarily disconnecting the plasma coil powering the cloaking generator coil for the area where the torpedo will leave the cloaking field from the plasma buffer. The translational field interaction between the cloaking generator coils causes a gap to open in the cloak. The calculations that are necessary to allow the ship to properly cloak after the launch of the torpedo are very complex. As a result, there is a lag in firing, the length of which depends on the speed of the cloaking generator coil's dedicated computer. This device is used for interplanetary travel within a solar system. Impulse drive is generated by one or more fusion reactors that use deuterium fuel to produce helium plasma which creates trust. Full Impulse is normally half the speed of light.
The temporal pulse plasma disrupter is a new age weapon introduced to the Federation by the Race Psilons. In there fist engagement the Psilons helped the Federation defeat ten Jem'Hadar vessels with a weapon never seen before. This weapon is centuries ahead of the Federation, Borg, Jem'Hadar, Klingon and Romulan technology. This new age weapon is based on the same principal as the phaser cannon but with some rather extreme advancements. This weapon Is capable of destroying a Jem'Hadar vessel with one chaotic burst from the cannon. This weapon is implemented in turret form on all Psilon vessels. There are reports of Moon sized starships Called "DOOM STARS" with lager weapons of the class but with eight times the power.
The Gravimetric Field Distortion Generator, or GFDG, is an amazing piece of Starfleet technology. The GFDG system manipulates gravity in a similar fashion as warp drive does with space-time. The GFDG distorts the gravimetric field around a starship; enabling higher warp travel for more massive starships. The gravitational constant of the starship and surrounding space/matter (up to 14.4 km) is reduced by a factor of up to ten. This, in turn, can reduce the apparent mass of a starship by the same factor or any lower factor (this can be altered by varying field intensity and alignment.) A master relay station, with a relay network of several (7) generators located in key areas around the ship produces this gravimetric field distortion. These relay stations work to counteract the natural "apparent" mass of the starship. They send an inverse polarity gravimetric field that emanates from the starship. This, in turn, reduces the net gravimetric field that acts on the ship. The artificial gravity subsystems onboard the ship would have to be re-tuned to compensate for the adjusted gravimetric interference. In theory, this device may someday replace the need for sleek starship designs. A warp bubble may be created around nearly any sized object. It has been hypothesised that a similar technique is employed in Borg warp technology, and may even be their means of creating transwarp conduits over vast distances. Early testing has been nearly perfect. The one failure was reported aboard the USS Gallant NX-70747. The field generator began to invert polarity due to unrestrained frequency increase. The structural integrity of the ship was nearly compromised. However, the problem was resolved without incident. The frequency has now been reduced to 186 kHz to avoid this problem in the future. In the test vessel, the USS Gallant, the master relay station is directed from engineering. However, the actual assembly is located on the underside of the hull in between the warp nacelles, in the direct midpoint of the two pylons. This, however, can be modified. It was placed there to allow ease of access during final testing at Utopia Planitia Fleetyards. The GFDG system can be internal or external. However, the artificial gravity subsystem must be fine-tuned accordingly. This relatively new Federation device is just completing final testing and shakedown. This device was conjured up from a past weapon, mainly from the 20th and 21st century. The famed Martin Veretta 20mm chain gun brought up new ideas for the fight against the Dominion and the Borg. The P.O.D. is basically rectangular pod with smooth corners containing 2 pairs of six phaser cannons. Further study broke the whole unit of a phaser cannon into one thick cylinder. The P.O.D. is fitted on space stations and orbital defence platform. When activated, the P.O.D. fires a steady stream of phaser "shells". This can cause sure destruction to any Dominion fighter or craft and eliminate a Borg cube within 20 minutes. The firing rate of a P.O.D. is about 1200 Shells Per Minute (spm). With the help of new scientists and alien races, the P.O.D. may be fitted on to upcoming Defiant-class ships and fighters. The other version of the P.O.D. is called the Photon Offence Defence, fires Photon, Quantum, Chronoton, Tri-Cobalt, and Quad-Cobalt Torpedoes. Sight modifications can accommodate certain torpedoes. The firing rate for this is slightly lower, at about 900 spm. Starfleet Special Units are developing an unmanned probe armed with seven of the P.O.D.'s deep within the Delta Quadrant to find Borg territory. The Hellfire Torpedo uses advances in Explosives and Multiple Munitions technology to create a weapon that causes extreme damage. It uses a standard Quantum Torpedo casing but uses a seperation system to seperate into 4 different warheads, each with as much explosive capability as the original Quantum Torpedo. It turns a standard 4 torpedo volley into a 16 torpedo barrage. It is devastating against large warships, and very useful against a group of small craft in tight formation. It can be used with a standard torpedo tube. It is currently being deployed to several starships for combat testing. - information from Soul Hunter.
When Starfleet began experimenting with very small weapons delivery systems, it became apparent that an alternative launching method would be required to equip these systems with quantum torpedoes. The result was an enhanced version of the quantum torpedo. The EQT is identical to a standard quantum torpedo, with the addition of a 11/2 meters of additional length. This additional length is a booster module. This booster module includes a quantum flywheel for power and a variable geometry warp propulsion unit with retractable nacelles. Even when launched from a sublight velocity, an EQT can accelerate to warp 9.9999 or more in just four nanoseconds. The booster module contains the additional computing power and sensor capability necessary for it to target and strike at ranges of up to 1 standard astronomical unit. The booster stage of an EQT is designed as a "bolt-on" enhancement of a standard quantum torpedo. The diameter of the EQT remains unaltered from a standard quantum torpedo, and it may be fired from most standard torpedo launchers with simple modifications easily performed at a starbase. The EQT's design includes a "loiter" mode. In this mode, the EQT acts as a mine. It is deployed in the desired location and remains in "standby" (power conservation) mode. This weapon was originally designed after the Wolf 359 incident and is specifically designed to do extreme amounts of damge to Borg vessels.Based around a plasma weapon it uses a heavy Gravity Field. The actual Plasma weapon is very crude, high power phaser{of sorts} which although not as highly tuned as a type X phaser arraycan do awesome amounts of damage. If the ship is firing at has shields, it does very little damage. However in conjecture with the Heavy Graviton Driver the result is very simular to a quantum torpedo. The tuned plasma literatley goes straight through the outer shields of a ship and tears into the hull, doing massive amounts of damage, in some cases cutting through the ship.
